Lua RIVERA

Lua Rivera is an installation artist born in Mexico. She makes art to erase the boundaries between disciplines, promoting a free interaction between them and allowing the exhibition to transcend the walls of the gallery. Lua based her artwork in processes such as nesting, growth, and adaptation of organisms. As a visual artist, she is distinguished from her continuous search and use of multidisciplinary resources such as intervention, video, photography, and textiles.

This outdoor and indoor installation is entirely made of bamboo and fabrics. All the materials were collected nearby by the installation space. It has shelters of different sizes that are meant to be used and touched by visitors.

To build a shelter, animals accumulate different materials for the construction of their houses. If you analyze those of indigenous communities, aborigines, and ancient cultures, you can see that their shelters are very similar to those of animals. Some of the most rustic ways of living and construction methodologies. This is why this work investigates the construction processes of the nests and shelters of both animals and insects. It explores the way innate instincts interact with cultural traditions during the nesting process.

Rivera used to think that strong animals are the ones that survive, but now she realizes they are the ones that best adapt and appropriate the resources of a place.
