皮特斯谷手工藝學校創始於1960年代，起於當時北美對當代和傳統手工藝品的再次重視。1970年起，皮特斯谷接待了數千名專業和新興藝術家，其中1980年，日本人坂久克幸（Katsuyuki Sakazume）在皮特斯谷校園設計並建造了一座窖窯(Angama Kiln)，當時是美國第一座供公眾使用的窯爐。如今的皮特斯谷通過舉辦給各年齡層的工作坊、藝術家進駐機會、外展活動等來延續其手工藝教育的歷史。校園內提供鐵工、陶瓷、纖維/織品設計、編織、精細金屬與珠寶、攝影、玻璃等相關的專業工作室，並擁有一間畫廊。皮特斯谷手工藝學校被認為是精緻工藝領域的指標之一，同時亦是美國同類機構中排名前五的機構。

In the 1960s, a North American resurgence in interest in contemporary and traditional crafts laid the groundwork for Peters Valley’s transition to its next life. Since 1970, Peters Valley has hosted thousands of professional and emerging artists. Of note: In 1980, Katsuyuki Sakazume designed and built an Anagama kiln on the Peters Valley campus. This was the first anagama kiln built for public use in the United States. Today, Peters Valley continues its history of crafts education through all-age workshops, residencies for artists, outreach events, etc. On the campus are professional studios for blacksmithing, ceramics, fiber/surface design, fiber/weaving, fine metals and jewelry, photography, and glass, etc, plus a gallery. Peters Valley is considered a leader in the field of fine craft and one of the top five institutions of its kind in the United States.
