Pilchuck Glass School was founded in 1971 by glass artist Dale Chihuly and patrons in Washington, USA. What began as a one-summer glassblowing workshop has grown into the world's most comprehensive center for glass art education that aims at exploring the creative use of glass in art and design. Pilchuck's philosophy of education flows from the founder's original idea of "artists teaching artists." The school believes that people everywhere thrive on creativity and can learn to cultivate their artistic talents, at any stage of life and at any point in their development as artists. The original core values of the school are to inspire creativity, transform individuals, and build community. Pilchuck hosts more than 500 students and artists each year, and provides seasonal professional courses and residencies. Pilchuck Glass School has comprehensive professional equipment related to glass making, including glassblowing, hot casting, kiln casting, coldworking, flameworking, neon, fusing, glass painting, stained glass, and also a wood and metal shop.
